fast portable fun for anyone who can spell
Do you like Scrabble but get hung up trying to use those special point squares are bummed when someone "steals your spot" or dragged down by Debbie Dictionary ("just let me look up this one word") or Slow Joe (who takes 20 minutes for each turn)? Well you would love Bananagrams because it solves those problems. There are no special squares (or squares at all) no points on the letters (all are worth the same) and no time to dawdle. You are instead rewarded for speed and flexibility in making your own crossword. You can completely pull apart your crossword and start from scratch if you need to or just swap out a letter here and there but don't get caught with a bunch of spare letters when an opponent goes out!
It is exciting and challenging to play this game with adults but it can be fun to include the kids. You can easily adapt the rules to suit yourself. We "handicap" the adults by drawing two tiles for every one the kids draw. You can play solitaire or have several players.
A similar game that I also love is Learning Resources' "Take Four". If you are the type who would prefer to have a grid to keep those tiles straight or likes to have a few "jokers" thrown in you might prefer this. But Banagrams is far more portable and much cheaper. I like both of these games so much (as well as the spelling card games Quiddler My Word and Tri-Virsity) that the old Scrabble board is gathering dust.

Fantastic smart game
I purchase this for a six year old nephew and the whole family joined in to break in this game. It was easy to understand but challenging. My nephew really enjoyed the game but it was hard for the adults not to be competitive when playing. The game is fun and it makes you want to out-think the opponents.
From what I hear my brother's family has been playing the game almost daily since my nephew received it. What better reception could there be for a game?
This game is money well spent. I believe that it will help my nephew develop logical thinking skills and strategy development. The fact that he is smiling all the while is icing on the cake.

great game - worth buying
Comparing Blokus 3-d to its predecessor Rumis it's a much better value. The components are better and the grid on the playboard helps keep the pieces in place. You sacrifice 2 templates (Rumis has 6 3-d has 4) but the quality more than compensates.
The strategy in 3-d is nothing like that in regular Blokus. Instead of connecting at corners 3-d requires you to always have one face of your piece touching another making blocking in 3-d more critical and dangerous since you could be completely blocked early in play. 3-d also seems somewhat quicker so it won't require the same time commitment regular Blokus does.
Other than the lack of two templates you may be disappointed in the quality for the price although 3-d is an improvement compared to other Educational Insights games. I have Blokus and Travel Blokus also and with those you get the feeling the game costs no more than a few bucks to produce but sells for much higher than the quality would normally dictate. It's a shame Education Insights skimps on quality AND charges you such a premium but 3-d is a step in right direction so I'm hoping the company realized this and is correcting it.
Overall I'd recommend buying. 3-d has its own uniqueness and challenging aspect. Plus it's a nice change of pace to regular Blokus due to its quickness and strategy differences.

"Travel Blokus" is a misnomer...
In Europe this game is called Blokus Duo and it's actually the two-person version of the four-person game Blokus. The pieces are identical except there are only two sets not four so the board is smaller too. So yes you can travel with it - but it's ideal to play at home when there are only two of you.
Personally I prefer this version to standard Blokus - there isn't the "gang-up" factor that standard Blokus has. I almost took away one star because the game is so addicting but that wouldn't be fair to the game.

Fun thinking game for ages 5 and up
I greatly enjoy playing board games with my children but I am not a fan of games that do not require thinking. Some of the "first" games are games of chance and they don't really stimulate their minds (or my mind). I like a game where the child is an active participant in the gameplay but are simple enough for them to learn.
Blokus3D is just that sort of game. My 5 year old really enjoys playing and he is getting close to beating me! We only play the "tower" configuration right now and we have a great time. In addition to great game play a lot of though was put into the game itself. Each of the 4 colors fits in its own opening in the plastic tray and the game board fits on top. The game board has a nice rotating action to allow each turning of the emerging tower without knocking over all of the pieces.
My only complaint is that the pieces can be tough for little fingers to avoid accidentally knocking over. Perhaps if they were a bit heavier or if their surfaces were slightly different the tower would hold better. Otherwise I am happy with the game and heartily recommend it.

Same as Travel Blokus
This Duo Blokus game is exactly the same as the Travel Blokus version. It has been apparently renamed to emphasize the fact that it is a two player version of the original four player Blokus game. However the board and pieces are much smaller than Original Blokus. I have "travel" Blokus and it was my favorite game to play with my six year old granddaughter. I say "was" because my three year old grandson who really enjoys fitting all of the pieces together anywhere on the board by himself (great for his spatial reasoning as each piece is a different shape and can be placed on the board on either side) lost two of the purple pieces. Without all of the pieces you can not play the game. I recently picked up the "Duo" Blokus to replace the travel version and it is exactly the same! I am thrilled to be able to play again with my granddaughter and now have extra pieces from the first one that I purchased. Fun easy to learn game for two people just don't lose any of the pieces!

Great Fun and Educational Too!
I originally bought this game for my classroom to help my students develop thinking skills. When it first arrived I took the game home to figure out how to play it before introducing it to my students--and I was hooked! My own children are ages 10 and 11 and they love the game (we are buying a game for home) but I teach students up to age 18 and they enjoy the game just as much. Educationally it helps younger students develop a better understanding of spatial relations and planning ahead. For older students (and adults) it helps to develop various strategy skills.
Unlike most educational games the rules are simple and once you've played it through one time (or watched it through one time) all your effort can go into plotting your moves. The game doesn't run out of possibilities either; every game is different even if you play with the same people over and over.
As an educator parent and game enthusiast this was money well spent.

Tylz engages your spatial perceptual and strategic skills - and it's fun too
Tylz as a passerby noted looks like some kind of Scrabble® game played with colors instead of letters. There are racks to hold your tiles and a large lovely unfolding board with special double-scoring squares marked with stars even.
But my friends Scrabble it is most definitely not. You could compare it to dominoes if your dominoes had colors instead of numbers and were made of three instead of two squares and were all L-shaped.
It turns out that Tylz is a unique board game combining strategic perceptual and spatial skills with a welcome balance of fun-inducing luck. One to four players (yes there is a solitaire version) score points by laying down tiles whose edges match in color to at least one of a growing configuration of tiles or to a space on the board. The more edges matched the more points you get. And if you match more three or more edges you get an extra turn.
Tylz pieces are magnetic and adhere lovingly to the large board. The game comes with 80 tiles no two of which are alike. Well they are all the same shape (an "L" made of three contiguous squares) but every tile has a unique combination of colored squares. This makes you want to consider the strategic implications of each of the three tiles on your rack. Should you play your all blue (or black or red or yellow or green) piece or hold on to it? Should you throw all your tiles back into the pot and replenish your hand with three new and hopefully more playable tiles?
And then there are those profoundly moving moments when you approach something close to an ecstasy of scoring - matching three edges picking a new tiles getting another turn matching three more picking another new tiles getting another turn and what matching four?!
Designed by Andy and Elliot Daniel and published by their own company Enginuity Games Tylz is Major FUN - fascinating flexible adaptable. The rules are brief and easy to learn. There are rules for a shorter game rules for a more challenging game - and suggestions for modifying them so that younger and older players can all be fairly and fully engaged. And there's even a solitaire version.
The colors are so vivid the shapes so interesting the board so large and attractively magnetic that the game can be enjoyed by children as young as 5 and adults who are even older than I am.

All the engineers at work are hooked
My whole team at work loves to play this during our lunch breaks. I've also played it with my parents and inlaws and 9 yr old cousins. Its fun for everyone! Blocus Trigon is a little easier for me to think about shape wise compared to Blocus classic. (triangles vs square "tetris" shaped pieces) This game works best with 2 or 3 people. With 4 people its best to play Blocus classic because its harder for everyone to gang up on one player. (which happens frequently when we play 4 player Trigon because the 4th person always ends up starting closer to one of the other 3 players)
The premise of the game is to get rid of all of your pieces. There are 21 different shapes each made up of between 1 and 6 triangles. You MUST touch the corner of one of your existing pieces but cannot touch the side of any of your existing pieces. Touching opponents pieces doesn't matter. People can be ruthless cutting each other off and blocking other people from putting down their pieces or expanding across the board. It makes for a lot of fun!
I rated this game as less durable just because there are a lot of little pieces and it could be very easy to lose one. Once you lose one you have to contact the company to get a replacement or you can't play with that color (one less player).
